Big Apple Barbecue Block Party
I can’t move. Maybe i went a little overboard with the amount of food and beer i ingurgitated this afternoon. I think i single-handedly put pig on the list of species at risk of extinction today but you know, nothing will get in between the zen-man and his meat, not even temperatures flirting with 100’F as it was the case today in New York. It seems i wasn’t the only one. Throngs of sweaty New Yorkers were waiting in line at the sixth annual Big Apple BBQ Block Party to get a taste of dishes served up by pitmasters from across the country including brisket, sausage and coleslaw from The Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, Texas; pulled pork shoulder from Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q in Decatur, Alabama; and whole hog and coleslaw from Ed Mitchell’s The Pit in Raleigh, North Carolina.
New York was well represented, with Hill Country, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Rack & Soul, and Blue Smoke all showing off their urban barbecue chops and certainly holding their own alongside more traditional barbecue locales. I thought i would share with you a few pictures of this day in the park. Yes, i know. New York City is pretty awesome.
Shade, O’ precious shade.
